Esteem Consortium in Partnership with Host Employer Construction Works Ltd
What are the benefits of using the Host Employer Model in Hull?
To enable this model to work it's important that all beneficiaries of the model are working together. It is only when this happens can this opportunity to be part of an innovative approach to training apprentices can be made possible.
We know its change but being part of this change can offer the greatest apprenticeship opportunity that the young people of Hull have had in many years. To provide this level of support and follow its success the host employer will endeavour to work towards securing a skilled workforce for the city of Hull.
- It demonstrates a commitment to qualifying the workforce so it is well placed for both an upturn in the industry and can compete in the downturn.
- Aims to access support to develop and seek accreditation for the framework qualifications most relevant for you.
- The model helps to combat skill shortages so that through Building Schools for the Future a legacy is left to the people of Hull.
- Assists to secure quality training provision to encourage continuing professional development within the supply chain.
- The host employer can help you to secure a skilled workforce and you are able to employ fully qualified apprentices once they have completed their training with the host.
- As Construction Works is the direct employer of the apprentices it lessens the contractual obligations, payment, taxation and legislative burden for supply chain companies. It also means a limited risk is gained overall.
- You'll benefit from a good supply of apprentices on a work placement arrangement at a reasonable cost to your company.
A guide as to how this will happen?
- Through reviewing the current and projected contracts within BSF against work placement opportunities, development of an apprentice induction plan will be provided between Esteem consortium and the host employer.
- Negotiate and secure firm commitment to placement opportunities from the supply chain (either through procurement contracts or as part of a separate memorandum of understanding.)
- Identify the volumes of apprentices by occupation and the host employer can work with the supply chain in the recruitment and selection process.
- Define and select the most suitable apprenticeship programme.
- The host will discuss arrangements to invoice the placement company for its contribution towards the apprentice.
- Host will employ the new apprentices and undertake first phase basic Health and Safety and host employer induction to work process before handing them over to the placement company.
- The host employer will have five apprentice placement officers on hand who will offer regular direct contact to support both the apprentice and the placement company.
- The host employer will work with the placement company to ensure full training commitments are being reached.
